The problem we share

We teach kids to drive before we hand them the keys.

A car is dangerous, so we built a system: training, testing, a permit, a license. Every parent accepts it without question.

A phone connects kids to the entire world, with its rewards, its comparison traps, and its strangers. Most kids get one with no preparation at all. Your campus feels the result every day.

Today's tools watch kids. None of them prepare kids.
1
No readiness standard
Nothing tells a family or a school whether a kid is actually prepared for device access and social media.
2
No structured training
No curriculum walks kids through what they need to learn before access begins, or as it expands.
3
No earned pathway
There is no measurable, developmental path to more freedom as a kid shows they can handle it.
Built for how schools work

Headlamp is driver's ed for the digital world.

A structured readiness pathway that fits your calendar, earns trust with families, and gives you something you can stand behind at a board meeting.

Simple to implement
Self-paced video lessons, ready-made facilitator guides, and live or async options. No new platform for teachers to learn.
Research-backed
Seven dimensions of readiness, synthesized from more than 2,000 studies by a quantitative psychologist.
Data informed
Shaped by a 48-family pilot, focus groups, parent interviews, and thousands of analyzed parent comments.
Able to be evaluated
Quizzes and a cumulative assessment verify completion. A readiness assessment shows where families start and grow.
Ready to scale
Start with one grade or one parent night. Grow to every campus in your district with the same language.
Three ways to partner

Start where you are. Add the rest when you're ready.

Each offering stands on its own. Together they move one framework through your entire community.

01

Curriculum for kids

Digital readiness, grades 6 and 8

Two courses that turn access into something kids earn, delivered on a classroom screen or a family device.

Earns the phone
Digital Permit Course
6th grade · 10 modules · video lessons and quizzes
Self-paced. Covers all 7 dimensions of readiness. A cumulative assessment verifies completion. Designed for conversation, not just compliance.
Earns social access
Social Media Driver's Training
8th grade · 7 sections · 31 modules
Builds on the Permit Course. Covers social identity, peer influence, and moral reasoning. Completion unlocks graduated social media access.
02

Professional development

For teachers and staff

Teachers leave knowing the 7 dimensions, how technology affects each one, and how to talk with families in the same language.

Keynote
A full-staff or department session introducing the framework and the case for a school-wide readiness standard.
Workshop series
Multiple sessions going deeper into each dimension, classroom applications, and family alignment.
Async training
Self-paced modules teachers finish on their own schedule, with reflection prompts and application activities.
03

Parent education

A whole-community model

Not another talking-at-parents night. Families move from one evening of inspiration into real, sustained practice at home.

Step 1
Kickstart keynote
A whole-parent session on what the research says and what families can do.
Step 2
Small group cohorts
Parents who want to go deeper move through the course together.
Step 3
Guided course
Videos, reflection prompts, and family conversation guides at the group's own pace.
Step 4
App access
Two months of guided daily steps in all 7 areas for families who finish.
The framework

Seven dimensions. One shared language.

Dr. Evie Trevino, a quantitative psychologist, developed the seven dimensions of readiness because no comparable framework existed. They predict how a kid navigates digital life better than age, rules, or parental controls.

Kids hear the same words from a teacher in class and a parent at the dinner table.

Dimension 1
Self-Regulation
Managing emotions and impulses when something more appealing is available.
Dimension 2
Responsibility
Following through and owning choices without reminders.
Dimension 3
Executive Function
Planning, organizing, and sustaining attention.
Dimension 4
Peer Influence
Knowing one's own mind in a group while still caring about belonging.
Dimension 5
Sense of Identity
A stable sense of self that doesn't depend on performance or approval.
Dimension 6
Moral Reasoning
Thinking about how choices affect others, even when no one is watching.
Dimension 7
Digital Literacy
Not apps or settings, but instincts: content is made by people with intentions, question what you see, and know there is a safe adult to come to.
What a rollout looks like

From first conversation to measurable results.

1
Start with a conversation
What you're already doing well, and where Headlamp fills the gap.
2
Align your staff
A keynote or async training gives teachers the shared language.
3
Bring in families
A kickstart keynote, then cohorts for parents who want more.
4
Launch the courses
6th and 8th graders work through their pathway with parents alongside.
5
Review and expand
Review completion and readiness results together, then scale to more grades or campuses.
Why Headlamp

Built on more than a dozen years of work with teens and parents.

Research-backed assessment
The 7 dimensions were developed by Dr. Evie Trevino, who synthesized thousands of studies across developmental psychology and adolescent neuroscience.
Proven curriculum
13 years of identity formation curriculum, used with tens of thousands of teens and dozens of schools through The YouSchool.
Deep family research
A 48-family pilot, 9 workshops, 13 focus groups, dozens of parent interviews, and thousands of online comments analyzed.
Our approach
Formation over control
We don't help adults restrict more effectively. We help kids build the self-awareness and values that make healthy choices sustainable.
The parent is always the guide
A shared language, not a surveillance tool. Trust is the goal.
Privacy-first by design
Parent-owned family data. No child data sold. Built with COPPA and FERPA school use in mind.
Portable across home and school
The same framework and the same words, whether a kid hears it from a teacher or a parent.
What PARENTS ARE sayING
I’m thinking very differently about this than I was 30 minutes ago, so thank you for putting that together...I’m ready to join. Whatever else you got, I want it."
Nathan, parent
"He was hearing all of this from someone other than his parents. This started a whole other conversation."
Carla, parent
Questions school leaders ask

The practical details.

How much staff time does this take?
Very little. Courses for kids are self-paced video lessons with built-in quizzes, so teachers don't prepare or grade anything. Staff training fits into time you already have: one keynote at a staff meeting, or async modules teachers complete on their own schedule. Parent cohorts come with a facilitator guide, so a counselor or PTA volunteer can host without special training.
Can we start small?
Yes. Many schools begin with one offering, like a parent kickstart night or the 6th grade Permit Course, and add more once families respond.
Do kids need their own devices?
No. The Permit Course runs on a classroom screen or a parent's device. Social Media Driver's Training runs on the teen's own device or a classroom screen.
How is student data handled?
Family data is parent-owned and no child data is sold. Headlamp is built with COPPA and FERPA school use in mind. We'll walk through our data practices with you and your technology team before anything launches.
How do we know it's working?
Quizzes and a cumulative assessment verify course completion, and the readiness assessment shows where families start and how they grow across the 7 dimensions. Together, those give you a clear picture of participation and progress you can share with your board and your parent community.
What does it cost?
Pricing depends on which offerings you choose and the size of your school or district. You can start with a single offering and add more over time. After a first conversation, we'll put together options that fit your community and your budget.

Let's build something your community will feel.

We start with a conversation about your school community, what you're already doing well, and where Headlamp might fill the gap.
